Find inverse secant angle in degrees and radians

Input Value

Arcsec Formula

arcsec(x) = arccos(1 / x)

Arcsec is the inverse of secant. Because secant is the reciprocal of cosine, arcsec is commonly evaluated by taking arccos of 1 divided by the input.

Input must be <= -1 or >= 1. Values between -1 and 1 are outside the real arcsec domain.

How Arcsec Works

If sec θ equals x, then cos θ equals 1/x. The calculator uses that relationship to return the principal angle.

Inverse Secant

Arcsec reverses secant.

Domain

x ≤ -1 or x ≥ 1.

Cosine Link

arcsec(x)=arccos(1/x).

Angle Units

Result is shown in degrees and radians.

💡 Example: arcsec(2)=arccos(0.5)=60°=1.047198 rad.
